The aim was to evaluate the process of students acquiring knowledge about the environment through a Didactic Sequence (DS). The research took place in a public school in Inajá, Paraná, Brazil, with biology students. Data was collected using an online questionnaire to capture prior knowledge of the application of the DS. Based on the responses, a DS was produced entitled: Is conscious consumption enough? These lessons included six moments: Discussion about the environment; Lecture-dialog; Ecological footprint activity; Video; Concepts; Planting vegetables. At the end of the DS, they answered a questionnaire. The results of the first questionnaire corroborate the fact that environmental education is still taught from a conservative perspective, i.e. only from an ecological point of view. Furthermore, some aspects need to change, such as teacher training and the methodologies used to approach environmental education. However, the results were positive for the DS. The students' engagement in the activities, cooperation, responsibility and commitment reinforced the idea that critical environmental education is a joint transformative action; it also showed that the process of teaching and learning about environmental education requires more diversified methodological approaches. We conclude that the DS was able to guide the main challenges facing environmental educators.
