This research focuses on an inquiry proposal from the perspective of environmental citizenship for teaching Science in Primary Education, aiming to develop environmental attitudes among students. The study employed a mixed-methods approach (quantitative and qualitative) with an exploratory scope and a quasi-experimental design involving two non-equivalent groups (control and experimental) comprising 56 third-grade children in an urban school in the Central Region of San José, Costa Rica. Data collection included an environmental attitudes scale, participant observations, an interview with the experimental group's teacher, and the implementation of the inquiry proposal. Key findings indicate the potential of the proposal, as the experimental group showed improvements in all evaluated environmental attitudes, contrary to the control group which exhibited unfavorable changes in five out of six assessed attitudes. This suggests that inquiry-based activities foster a more significant teaching and learning process compared to traditional textbook-based methodologies. The proposal integrates curriculum content through inquiry phases (focus, exploration, contrast-reflection, and application) and promotes environmental citizenship. Highlighted aspects include thematic flexibility, adaptability across subjects and school years, and engagement with socio-scientific issues. Further integration of socio-scientific activities is recommended to enhance the proposal's objectives.
